Now 40 years later, A-G Specialty Insurance has grown to become the national leader in the sports insurance industry, handling innovative sports and special risk accident medical insurance. But the most important thing to know about A-G is that a personal commitment to our schools and students is still the center of everything we do.
Since our start, we’ve focused on insuring athletes and honing our expertise to effectively serve interscholastic, youth, collegiate, and Olympic sports programs and student health plans.
Founder Al Gillis established A-G Specialty Insurance in 1983 as a one-man operation to handle local K-12 school district accident accounts.
In 2008, two of Al’s sons—Dixon and Jake, who had been in the business with Al—purchased the business and have been focused on maintaining and steadily building upon the company’s core values.
In 2018, A-G Specialty Insurance aligned with the 1251 Capital Group, a strategic partner for property and casualty insurance businesses with 50 years of experience and expertise in accelerating growth and scaling operations. While A-G Specialty Insurance will utilize 1251’s operating experience and strategic resources, we will maintain our independent culture as sports insurance specialists.
A-G Administrators becomes A-G Specialty Insurance. The new name reflects the company’s expanding capabilities and vision, and better captures what A-G is doing now and where it’s going in the future.
Today, A-G has a reputation for fair pricing and outstanding customer service. We still write accident, health, and liability plans for K-12 programs. Through strategic acquisitions like First Agency TPA, Gallagher Bollinger TPA, and with the addition of eSportsInsurance, we've strengthened our position as sports insurance specialists and the leader in collegiate student and athletics insurance programs. We also serve national governing bodies, youth sports organizations, and offer special risk coverage to niche markets such as camps, clinics, daycare centers, first responders, and others.
